First Week Back in CTPosted by Danielle Schneider in Untagged |
I have offically been back in Cape Town for a week now and it has been so nice to get back to life. I loved my time in the states but it was very busy where now here I have been able to slow down an just adjust back to life. We landed on Tuesday and on Wednesday I picked right back up into work. I walked into the Prevention building and was overwhelmed with all of the things thatI needed to do so I slowly easied back into things as well as the fact that Wednesday was the HOTTEST day here in Cape Town.....like 36C or over 100F!! On Thursday I was ready to tackle the day when I realized that it was basically unpacking day at the Prevention building and finally all of us would be together and there was internet and phone in the building so we could all be together....it was fun times. Chantel who is Avril's PA as well as Life Skills Coordinator and I share an office and we were trying to get things unpacked but we both have a lot of stuff!! I also soon realized that I needed to look at schedules to see what was going on with things and also was able to have a meeting with Avril to learn about the new changes with the Life Skill Educators and some new roles for me!! The whole prevention department is changing and I am so exicted to see what is going to happen. In the mornings the LSEs are divided into different groups consisting of preschool, schools, teenagers/colleges, and parenting. Then in the afternoon everyone is doing children's clubs however we are not doing as many clubs and focusing on developing deeper relationships with the children. So it is very exciting times also there is going to be teen clubs going on as well two days a week. You can easily tell that we are doing new things and all learning together.
Friday came and I was so ready to see the LSEs and so I also was bursting to tell them the news about the fact that I am not leaving in May. Well I told them and the funny part was no one was shocked by anything I said they all at the same time were like well we knew you were not going home in May. They said I was one of them and this is my home and I really have to agree with them but for now this is my HOME!! The weird part was in talking and they asked me how long I was going to stay I said well I can honestly say I have no idea that I am here for as long as the Lord allows me to be. WOW what a new concept for me to try to wrap my hands around. This weekend was spent laying low. I did on Friday night go to a youth event in Capricorn with some of the volunteers they were having a dance and the funny part was I did not know any of the music but it was easy to see that the youth were having a great time and I enjoyed seeing that. I spent Saturday just relaxing and then had some people over for taco salads and we played games! On Sunday went to King of Kings and it was such a different experience because the church has felt burdened to do things differently right now for the nex three weeks. John preached and talked about being at a place where we are complicaent and realizing how much we truly do need God. We have been challenged to fast from something for the next three weeks and in that time seek God more!! On Sunday there were some stations set up for us to go to during the church service as well as the fact there was no music. The truly God thing was everything John was saying I have been feeling!! WOW
I spent Sunday afternoon in just quiet and relaxing. I am looking forward to this week and seeing what is going to happen......
