Barefoot Bowling, Beauty and the Beast, and other stories from the week!!

So since I am a week behind in my blog I thought I would just summarize the past week.  Last week was very exciting we had President Bush's press secretary and her husband here and I got to take them to two of the kids clubs in Masi and get to talk with them a bit and it was neat just to talk with them and hear their thoughts on kids club.  I also again spent a whole lot of

time working on curriculum sitting behind my laptop.  On Friday we had work day and we picked up trash and raked outside our property.  It may not sound like it was all that much but oh my goodness we were all so tired by the end of the day.  I have blisters on my thumb and also lots of scrapes from picking up branches and things!  Friday night we went to the movies…that is becoming one of my favorite things to do here because it is cheap so the boys and I went to the movies and saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  On Saturday, just chilled around the house for a good portion of the day and then we all decided to go bowling.  That is something I never would of thought of but hey why not.  We went and we all bowled barefoot they were like no you do not need shoes so when in South Africa.  The barefoot bowling still did not help my score but we had a good time!  After bowling we tried this new place for dinner and it was wonderful.  The restaurant is owned and operated by a husband and wife and man can the wife cook!! We made the decision we would definitely be coming back and visiting them again.  Sunday of course was church and I do believe was the HOTTEST day all I have been here.  After church none of us wanted to do anything….I just laid on my bed in the dark with a fan blowing on me and watched a movie!  Ryan and I went downtown to go and see Beauty and the Beast the musical production.  I was so excited to go to the theatre here, it is cheaper than in America and we had been planning for months and months.  It was so cool to see the story acted out all the while hearing the characters talk with a South African accent.  Monday and Tuesday of this week I just worked at the office and of course that involved having time of sitting in front of my computer.  On Tuesday morning I met with the Masi LSEs that work with the preschoolers and they asked for my help in explaining the curriculum they use to teach it like I teach the afternoon Kids Club curriculum.  This made my morning because it was showing me they are learning and the Friday training sessions are really making a difference.  Also on Tuesday night we had our first DC4K meeting and we start back up with that at King of Kings on March 15th.  There are two new women helping this time so we shall see how it goes, I am looking forward to getting to know some new kids and building relationships.   On Wednesday…(today) I had a training session with one of the LSE groups because I will be gone on Friday and there is no training.  Then I worked from home for a little bit and then I had another meeting on the other side of the mountain. I had a meeting with the three social workers and Avril and we talked about kids club.  It was very interesting because they have been visting the clubs and so we were talking about the things that we had seen.  It was great to sit down and talk about the changes we have seen and how the LSEs are growing! 🙂
